OUR STORY
The Heart Behind KCND2 Strong
KCND2 Strong was created from a deeply personal journey.
We are Jessica and Josiah Gillan, parents to four beautiful children- Jecole (16), Khloe (15), Winston (4), and Lynlee (1)-- Living in Sheridan, Wyoming.
At the forefront of our family is Jecole, whose rare KCND2 variant mutation has shaped our lives for over sixteen years. From the earliest days of unexplained struggles- constant screaming, severe feelings and bowl issues, scoliosis, chorea, vision loss and self-injury- to her pivotal role as Patient 2 in the Rare Genome Project, Jecole has been our greatest teacher. She inspires us every single day with her strength and resilience.
Like many families navigating a rare diagnosis, we searched for answers, support, understanding, and hope. Along the way, we discovered the incredible strength found within families facing similar challenges.
KCND2 Strong was born from the desire to turn that strength into action.
What started as a way to raise awareness has grown into a mission-driven community focused on education, advocacy, connection, and hope.
Every design represents resilience. Every purchase helps share our story. Every supporter becomes part of something bigger.
Jecole's life continues to remind us that even in the unknown, loves find purpose. Through every sleepless night, every mile driven to specialist, and every act of compassion from our younger children, we have learned our story is bigger than our struggles.
We created this space to connect, encourage, and support other families walking similar paths.

ABOUT us
Understanding KCND2
Born with a rare KCND2 variant mutation, Jecole experiences the world differently. She is nonverbal, non ambulatory and face significant other challenges. Yet through it all, she remains deeply loved and loving.
KCND2 is a gene that plays an important role in how nerve cells communicate within the brain and nervous system.
As Patient 2 in the Rare Genome Project, her journey has started to help other families find answers faster giving her life a purpose that reaches far beyond our home. Her life reminds us daily that love doesn't need words to be powerful, and that the most meaningful journeys are often the ones walked with open hearts.
Variants in the KCND2 gene may be associated with neurological and developmental challenges that can impact daily life for affected individuals and their families.
Because KCND2-related conditions are rare, awareness and education are essential.
